• BACKGROUND: Dr. Gary has performed during the past 30 years with many bands in the Sacramento area, such as the Riverbank Blues Band and JM Jazz, as well as leading his own bands and combos. He performed at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee for 26 years. He retired after 32 years as a professor and honey bee research scientist at the University of California. He now devotes full time to entertainment, especially music. He plays clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, and flute. Dr. Gary is a gold card member of the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society. He is also very active in the Sacramento Banjo Band as a performer (clarinet) and as their booking agent.

“Norm Gary Combo” – These 2-5 piece combos feature various combinations including clarinet, saxophones, keyboard, banjo, tuba, bass, drums, and vocalists. We play almost any style… gay nineties, favorite standards… Dixieland jazz with male & female vocalists. We have over 1,000 tunes in our repertoire! These affordable small combos feature star musicians from Northern California. We can perform outdoors, indoors, strolling, on stage, in trains, on boats, dinner/dances, parties, wedding receptions…you name it.

“Beez’ Kneez Jazz Band”- Dr. Gary organized and led this outstanding seven-piece Dixieland Jazz band that performed in the Sacramento area for 9 years, including performances at the annual Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. He recently disbanded Beez’ Kneez to pursue other interests but still plays Dixieland gigs.
